Bridge the Gap Between Your Capacity and Learner Success
Your scope is wide.
Your capacity is limited.
As an education consultant, I provide the support you need to accomplish your education and training mission, without adding strain on you or your staff.
Hello. I'm Mike.

I'm a scientist and career education professional with over 13 years of experience working in graduate education. At three biomedical research institutions, I've held roles in:
- career services,
- postdoctoral affairs,
- research administration, and
- student and academic affairs.
Now, as a career education consultant and career coach, I continue to support my community to help you fulfill your education mission.
And I understand the demands placed upon you. You likely
- serve hundreds, if not thousands, of learners,
- are a solo-practitioner or work on a small team, and
- have a wide scope, but limited depth and capacity.
Let's partner to add depth to the education and training opportunities you offer to those you serve. I bring pragmatism, collaboration, and mutual benefit, ensuring we build a relationship based on shared values and trust.
Our goal is to empower learners to set and achieve clear, actionable goals, to help them develop new skills, and to give them tailored strategies to navigate career transitions.

My Mission
To empower learners to navigate their careers with confidence and integrity. I aim to provide clear guidance and support to ensure learners achieve their goals.
My Vision
For every professional to have access to human-focused career management education.
As the founder and principal coach for Fulcrum Point Career Solutions,
I abide by these values.
Accessibility
I am dedicated to provide an accessible experience to everyone. I offer competitive pricing, flexible scheduling options, virtual consultations, and accessibility accommodations. I also aim to learn and utilize up-to-date web-accessibility standards for people living with disabilities.
Anti-Racism
White supremacy is omni-present in our society. My company is anti-racist. We will not work together if you have a problem with that. I am dedicated to creating a safe, equitable, and supportive environment for my clients who are Black, Indigenous, Latino, Asian, Pacific Islander, trans, queer, non-binary, or who are a part of any other community marginalized and historically-excluded from higher education.
Community
My company exists to serve the people and the community. I aim to connect with peers, share experiences, and build professional relationships that extend beyond coaching and training.
Empathy
I prioritize listening to my clients fully and without judgement so I may understand the reasoning behind their decisions and perspectives based on their experiences, allowing me to tailor my services to their needs and goals.
Integrity
I maintain the highest standards of honesty and ethical behavior in all my interactions. Clients can trust that I will always act in their best interests and provide them candid, reliable advice and feedback.
Transparency
Clear communication is key to building trust and fostering long-term client relationships. My clients are fully informed about my processes, fees, and what to expect from me and from our collaboration.

Description & learning objectives:
Communicating effectively goes beyond writing manuscripts, yet writing and other communication forms – posters, platform talks, and data visualization – are rarely taught formally. Here, you will be able to:
- learn communication frameworks to help you plan and set goals for your communications;
- implement best practices for writing manuscripts, creating posters, or planning presentations;
- create compelling images and figures that convey your ideas; and
- practice delivering platform presentations and answering questions.
Example titles:
"Convey your science with posters"
"What's your message? Frameworks to guide your speaking and writing"
"Scientific Proposal Writing: Co-working Workshop"
Description & learning objectives:
Hiring processes vary wildly by sector. From academia to industry, successfully applying for and landing a role in your chosen sector requires an understanding of these processes and how to navigate them. From searching for roles to the hiring process itself, in this series you will:
- identify the steps of a typical job search;
- learn how to define job search parameters based on skills, strengths, and values;
- identify strategies to organize and track a job search;
- identify comprehensive and niche search tools to find job postings, and how to access the “hidden job market;”
- understand how to implement filtering and notification tools to find relevant positions; and
- learn how to evaluate qualifications for identified positions.
Example titles:
"The Effective Job Search"
"Navigating Your Industry Job Search"
"Launching a Faculty Job Search"
Description & learning objectives:
Interviewing well takes careful crafting and practice of your message that will convince a hiring manager to extend an offer to you. It also takes an understanding of the interview process, knowing what to expect and how to navigate it. Here, you will be able to:
- understand the typical structure of an interview, and variations by sector;
- learn how to craft answers to interview questions using storytelling;
- evaluate an offer letter and know what is and is not negotiable; and
- learn how to plan for an effective negotiation conversation.
Sample titles:
"Interviewing is Storytelling"
"Negotiating Your Salary & Equity"
"Negotiating Your Faculty Startup Package"
"Ace the Interview"
Description & learning objectives:
Before entering the job market for the first time, or for any other time in the future, it is useful to step back and reflect on yourself, explore the available options, and identify alignments between your reflections and those explorations. If your goal is to pursue your job search with confidence and clarity, this series will help you:
- articulate the values that give your work meaning;
- identify your skills, those you enjoy using, and those that may lead to burn-out;
- reflect on your key personal traits and ideal work environment; and
- learn strategies and processes to explore your career options.
Sample titles:
"Managing Your Career Transition"
"Informational Interviewing for Career Exploration"
Description & learning objectives:
You cannot manage time to end up with more of it, but you can learn how to utilize time effectively. A time utilization strategy can help you alleviate stress and anxiety. More importantly, it can help you know when to say no, allowing you to focus on your priorities. In this workshop, learners will:
- evaluate how they spend their time, both for personal and professional pursuits;
- discover when they're focused, and what distracts them;
- develop a system to triage information and how to process it; and
- create a system for organizing information and allocating time to act on it.
Sample titles:
"Time Management for Scientists"
"Set Your Priorities: Strategies to help you know when to say yes and no"
Add on pre- and post-session learning evaluations to any seminar or workshop.
